UPDATE – October 2, 2021, 4:30 p.m.

The University of Michigan Police Department, with assistance from the FBI, has identified an out-of-state residence from which the threat was published. FBI agents interviewed a resident of the house, whom they believed was responsible for the message.

Based on the investigation, there is no indication of imminent harm to our community.

We value our partnership with our community and appreciate those who have stepped forward to report this information. We also appreciate the quick and efficient response from our law enforcement partners.

October 2, 2021 at 12:45 p.m. – The University of Michigan’s Public Safety and Security Division has been made aware of a message posted on a Russian-operated faith-based website indicating an intention to commit an incident shooting targeting women on the UM Campus on October 4, 2021. The post was deleted.

The safety and security of our community is our top priority. The UM Police Department is working with local, state and federal law enforcement partners to investigate this message.

As a precaution and to assist those concerned, the DPSS will provide additional staff and take other risk mitigation measures.
