It was the hilarious and awkward moment a Sky Sports presenter mistook Sadio Mane for one of his inner circle, as their reporter sought to get an exclusive scoop on Bayern Munich’s new signing.

Mane grabbed headlines on Wednesday afternoon when he finally completed his £35.1million move to Bayern Munich, bringing the curtain down on a trophy-laden spell at Liverpool.

And moments after the 30-year-old arrived at Bayern headquarters, Sky Sports were extremely keen to secure an interview with him.

Sky Sports presenters were caught up in a hilarious gaffe involving Sadio Mane, as he arrived at Bayern Munich’s training ground after completing his £35.1m move.
Broadcasters wanted to get an interview with Mane and thought he would get out of a flashy red car after a door opened.
Instead, one of Mane’s entourage got out of the car with the Sky Sports presenters back in the studio happily saying “there he is!” only to realize seconds later that it wasn’t the winger

During a live segment on Sky Sports News, one of their German correspondents waited outside Bayern’s training base to get an exclusive interview with Mane and appeared to be getting just that when a flashy car with tinted windows stopped outside.

Encouraged by his colleagues, the Sky Sports reporter then approached the vehicle to get a reaction from the man himself before one of the rear doors opened, letting the suspension build.

As the man emerged seconds later, Sky Sports presenter Vicky Gomersall said enthusiastically “There he is!” only to realize he wasn’t the man of the moment.

Instead, it was one of Mane’s entourage, leaving Gomersall to realize his gaffe and say “oh no, wait a minute”, with Mane stepping out of the vehicle on the other side.

The hilarious gaffe left fans online angry, with one fan describing the moment as “shock” while another called the incident “brilliant”.

Fans were left behind by the blunder made by Sky Sports presenters on Wednesday

Mane has put pen to paper on a three-year deal worth £250,000-a-week at the Allianz Arena, ending his six-year stint on Merseyside.

Speaking for the first time as a Bayern player, Mane said: “I am very happy to finally be with FC Bayern in Munich.

“We had a lot of discussions and I felt the great interest of this great club from the start, so there was no doubt in my mind from the start.

“Now is the right time for this challenge. I want to accomplish a lot with this club.

The Senegalese star, who arrived at Anfield from Southampton in 2016 for £34m, played his last game for the Reds in the Champions League final loss to Real Madrid.

Mane hinted ahead of that game in Paris that his future could be away at Anfield, then confirmed his intention to leave less than 24 hours after the full-time whistle.

In a farewell interview with Liverpool, Mane added: “Obviously it’s strange – really, really strange – not to be a Liverpool player anymore after six years at Anfield.”

“But of course I had a great time, an amazing time, and from my first day I’ve really, really enjoyed training, playing, at Anfield in particular and in front of these amazing fans. Now that’s is over, what can you say?

“I think anyone who leaves Liverpool, with these supporters, you will always miss them because until now [they are] the best in the world and I have always said so.

“I would love to come back to Anfield one day and say hello to them and of course watch Liverpool play because for me I will be Liverpool’s number one fan – after the fans!”.

Asked about the prospect of returning to Anfield in the Champions League, he said: “You know the Champions League and how the draw always goes, it can happen for sure and if it happens it happens. ”

“It’s football and of course I have to come and I have to play. But like I said, Liverpool is Liverpool and we’ll see. We’ll see what happens.

Mane won six major trophies during six years on Merseyside, claiming all major club honours, and scored a total of 120 goals in 269 games for the club.
