PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – One of Philadelphia’s newest restaurants has a new requirement that is rocking social media. Steak 48 on Broad Street and Spruce Street was busy all Wednesday night. A diverse group of diners told us that the staff reminded them of the substantial minimum once inside.
The tweets were mostly comical, some curious, as a discussion of the minimum price for a Philadelphia steakhouse went viral on Wednesday.

“My mother is 84 years old. She won’t buy a tomahawk steak and three cocktails. She might not get $ 100, so what do we say to this client? ” he said.
In a statement, Steak 48 wrote in part, “Like many restaurants in our industry, we have had to make updates to our policies, such as the minimum of $ 100 per person in order to support our staff and restaurant operations. , and provide the capacity to succeed as a steakhouse designed for a full table experience… ”
Reverend Mitchell says, however, that he understands why some believe the pricing notice targets black customers.
“It’s an old American recipe that’s often cooked in a different way than we’ve seen before,” he said.
Steak 48’s dress code is casual at its four locations. The Chicago site has also implemented the $ 100 minimum.
In a light tweet, a user who wasn’t a fan of Steak48’s decision posted, “I’ll take Steak 38 (the steakhouse in a Motel in Cherry Hill) rather than Steak 48 anyway.”
