ICarly Writers Defend Reboot Stars Against Racist Social Media Attacks – Deadline

Paramount + writers iCarly reboot have come forward to defend cast members, including Laci Mosley, against racist attacks on social media.

“Hey #iCarly tweeps! I see a multitude of racist abuses being launched against one of our stars, ”wrote writer / co-producer Franchesca Ramsey,“ and I would like you to join me in speaking out against it when / if you see it. “

“Recently … a number of people have chosen to voice racism and in some cases harass beloved members of our cast,” read another post on Ramsey’s Twitter account, attributed to the all editorial staff. “We unequivocally denounce all racist attacks, anti-black language and hate speech in the strongest possible terms. iCarly is a happy, inclusive show meant to promote cuteness (and the occasional prank). Harassment and white supremacist ideology have no place in our show or in the discourse around it.

“If this is your preferred mode of communication,” the iCarly the writers continued, “we suggest you look at something else.”

Mosley, who plays Harper on the reboot, confirmed she was one of the cast members attacked online with her own Twitter posts. “My sister told me that she had seen several videos about me on TikTok being racist while the shit was breaking my heart,” she wrote. “My sister and I are 13 years apart, she’s like my kid and having to see this shit broke me. I don’t know what’s wrong with you, but you have to ask for help.

“I shouldn’t have cursed in that answer, but I was really caught off guard by the onslaught of racist trolls,” the actress tweeted later. “I deleted a lot of comments, but they keep coming across all platforms. Being a black woman is exhausting. We all deserve better.

According to Ramsey’s Twitter thread, it appears that actress Jaidyn Triplett, who plays Millicent, has also faced racist attacks online. “Would also ask you to send love to our youngest #iCarly cast member Jaidyn, ”the writer wrote. “Fortunately, his parents manage his social media, but that doesn’t make things that are said about him any less hurtful.”

Premiere on Paramount + on June 17th iCarly is a reboot of a popular children’s comedy series, which aired on Nickelodeon between 2007 and 2012. The original show followed Carly (Miranda Cosgrove), a young girl who created her own web series, alongside her best friends Sam (Jennette McCurdy) and Freddie (Nathan Kress). Original actors who will appear in the reboot opposite Mosley and Triplett include Cosgrove, Kress, and Jerry Trainor.
