Former Bake Off host Mel Giedroyc explains how her new series is different

Ex-Great british pastry shop Presenter Mel Giedroyc returns to UK screens with a new competing reality show on Channel 4.

The six-part series, called Handmade: Britain’s best cabinetmaker, will put contestants through tough woodworking challenges as they fight for the crown.

The tasks will be judged by the extraordinary furniture maker Helen Welch and the famous architect Alex de Rijke.

The series will air on Channel 4 on Thursday, October 21, and broadcast weekly.

Talk to Radio schedules, Giedroyc said the show is very different from Great british pastry shop.

“The [contestants] are phenomenal, “she explained.” They didn’t have time between episodes, which is so unusual. At Pastry shop, we would shoot on weekends, then the bakers would have the week to practice and relax. “

“It was like a marathon and the carpenters have so much courage,” she added. “It’s a brilliant bunch of people and they enjoyed being all together because it’s usually such a lonely activity. So for them meeting other people who have the same passion was wonderful.”

Each episode of the new series will put carpenters to the test with a ‘Big Build’, where contestants will have to create creative and exciting works that will be examined by the judges.

In the original press release for the new series, previously titled Good with wood, Giedroyc said: “In the Upside Down World of 2020 IN GENERAL, having a good solid piece of wood in your hand is pretty much MUST-HAVE. So if you go down to the woods today you’re going to have a big surprise. “

Channel 4 factual entertainment editor Daniel Fromm added, “Joyful, insightful and entertaining, this series is a feel-good event and an antidote to our time as it celebrates craftsmanship and extraordinary art from the best carpenters in the country. “

Handmade: Britain’s best cabinetmaker broadcast on Channel 4 Thursdays at 8 p.m., starting Thursday, October 21.
