Comedian M. Macaroni berates celebrities for ‘eating’ government money

Ace comedian Debo Adebayo, affectionately known as Mr Macaroni, has berated celebrities for benefitting from the government, which he claimed has stifled #EndSARS anniversary activities.

On Friday, in a long article on Instagram, the comedian explained how the government had cracked down on the events planned a year after the demonstration.

The comedian, who was instrumental in last year’s protests, called on young people to unite to advance governance.

His statement, mostly written in Pidgin, read: “I want to talk about my mind while they hurt me !! We don’t get to a year before the EndSars arrive. Whenever people say they want to do everything about Endsars for this Lagos; na so so Police Vans, Trucks, even Armor Tanks wey dem go pack full the place.

“That same Lagos wey dem go dey is robbing people in broad daylight and no one will come to your rescue. Now October 20 is almost here.

“We say we want to walk peacefully to Tollgate, they say no. Oya makes us do Summit for Landmark Event Center, in a controlled environment and chat with ourselves, some powers above do not threaten them.

“Those who do not speak say that we can no longer organize an event there. And how can we honestly blame them? They protect themselves, their business and their customers.

“My question is, can’t young Nigerians come together again to discuss the way forward? OK. Na una plan to reign forever is it ??

“The Lagos State government is hosting an event tonight. In fact, the biggest celebrities go there to perform.

“Lagos State is putting on shows a few days before October 20, but other Lagosians can’t come together for their own peaceful summit?” Before I finish speaking now, you’re going to hear “they’re going to hijack your top.”

“So how does Una dey do shows and political rallies for Una wey dem no dey Hijack am?”

“For celebrities, make us reason this thing. The government is not good but una dey hashes government money.

“I’m not saying no one is cut. But there are things greater than money !! If a government treats people better now, and even better. People are suffering and these people are doing nothing!

“The last time the police carried me, they beat me and the others !! They undressed us !! They ask me to say “Sheyb na do you want me to disturb Governor Abi” Shey na this kain government that I respect?

“If there will be a peaceful march on the 20th, I’m still on the ground. But it must be all of us together.

“And don’t go bad if Una goes to the government show and still attends a summit or walks for the youth. Everyone wants coconut water but no one wants to make them crack coconuts for their heads.

“For Nigeria, even if you let them crack the coconut on your head, the higher powers are still not suitable, don’t let others drink the coconut water. We must all come together! (sic).
