A one-bed apartment is on the market in one of London’s fanciest postcodes for £ 2,000 a month – and it comes with a sofa bed.
A rental agent is asking £ 445 per week for the studio in Nottingham Place, Marylebone, where the average house costs £ 2.3million, according to Foxtons rental agency.
Hampstead Apartments advertises the pokey property where the living-kitchen-office space can be transformed into a bedroom by folding the sofa into a bed.
Councilor Ian Rowley, who represents Marylebone High Street on Westminster Council, said: “It sounds absurdly overpriced – I guess no sane person would touch it with a barge pole.”
An advertisement for the property on the Hampstead Apartment website states: “This studio offers stylish living in the heart of London…. this is the ideal apartment in central London.
“The comfortable sofa is a great place to relax that quickly folds up into a double bed for a good night’s sleep.
There’s a small bistro table that can double as a dressing table or a great place to catch up on emails.
He says the studio is a five-minute walk from Baker Street tube station – and electricity, gas and water bills are included in the rental fee.
Also included are a TV, iron and trendy kitchen appliances.
Reuben Young of the affordable housing campaign PricedOut said: “Rents in London are a disgrace and force tenants to choose between paying exorbitant sums out of their wages or living in tiny or overcrowded houses.
“We need to build the homes London desperately needs by adopting a system that makes housing construction legal, rather than our 70-year-old discretionary planning system designed to under-supply housing.”
